I see the birds migrate into and out of the Puget Sound region, see the whales come and go, and marvel at all the baby animals each spring. The natural spaces in and around Seattle are a treasure to the people and animals that pass through them. Sadly, not everyone agrees with me. There are people who treat these beautiful places like a trash can. They toss trash into the lakes and Puget Sound with no regard for the impact they are having. I’m thankful that these individuals are in the minority, but the impact of their actions is far-reaching.

It didn’t matter what product, type of resin, or retail source was tested, even those claiming to be BPA-free, they all released chemicals mimicking estrogen. This is important to know because the “non-BPA” claims probably don’t mean you are avoiding EA chemicals, only BPA.

R number four is Recycle. When you recycle products that have exhausted their use, you help to return these products to a facility that can break these products down into materials that can be used over and over again. Remember to sort your garbage. Put your clear glass into a separate container from your colored glass, put your plastic packaging into another container, and your paper products into another. Depending on where you live, you may even be able to participate in a community compost program, or you can always just compost in your own back yard (or do vermicomposting).
Talk through with the baby-sitter emergency situations such as fire, baby being very sick etc., and leave the number of the Fire Brigade and your Family Doctor beside the phone. Leave your contact number with the baby-sitter and encourage them to phone you if there is any difficulty.
